Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT)
Univerisity of Moratuwa

The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is an external degree offered by the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. It was introduced to address the growing demand for ICT professionals in the country. The program aims to produce industry-ready graduates through a comprehensive and cost-effective education.

A student may enter the degree programme at different levels depending on the qualifications they have obtained as shown below.

Level 1 An applicant may be considered for Admission to the BIT degree programme, if he/she has: 
  1. Three passes in the current G.C.E. (A/L) examination in one sitting and a credit pass for Mathematics in the G.C.E (O/L) examination.
  2. Any other academic qualification, equivalent to 1 or higher, approved by the Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Board
  3. Any other qualification from a Professional Institution approved by the Senate on the recommendation of the Faculty Board.

A candidate who has obtained at least 6 passes in not more than two sittings and a credit pass in Mathematics at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination and a full-time Diploma/Certificate or higher qualification of at least 1 year duration from a recognized institution to have satisfied the entry criteria under section 2 above . (Applicants who do not qualify under section 1 must pass the Aptitude Test conducted by the Faculty)

Level 2

To be considered for admission to the Degree programme at the Level 2 an applicant must successfully complete the Diploma Programme (i.e.,the Level 1).

 

Level 3

To be considered for admission to the Degree programme at the Level 3 an applicant must successfully complete the Higher Diploma Programme (i.e.,the Level 2).

The qualifications accepted by the university in place of (an alternative) the 03 passes at G. C. E.  (A/L) exam are-

At least 06 passes in not more than two sittings and a credit pass in Mathematics at the GCE (O/L) examination and a full-time Diploma / Certificate or higher qualification of at least 1 year duration from a recognized institution.

The Senate has so far approved the following institutes / programs/ qualifications:

  1. Training institute or programs accredited by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC)
  2. Government technical colleges

Lateral Entry – SLIATE (Full Time)

  • A candidate is considered to have successfully completed all subjects of SLIATE HNDIT (new Curriculum) and the six months (06) training period.
  • A candidate can start the level 3 with the exemption of Level 1 and 2 subjects according to their track.
  • All full time students must pass an aptitude test conducted by CODL to qualify for the programme.

Lateral Entry – SLIATE (Part Time)
  • A candidate is considered to have successfully completed all subjects of SLIATE HNDIT (new curriculum) & must have one year of work experience in a recognized institution after completing HNDIT.
  • A candidate can start the level 3 with exemption of Level 1 and Level 2 subjects according to their track.

All part time students must pass an aptitude test conducted by CODL to qualify for the programme.
